BATHINDA: Dhudike village in Moga district is set to commemorate the 100th death anniversary of Ghadar Party member Ishar Singh by unveiling his statue on Saturday. Ishar and his four party colleagues were hanged on June 18, 1916, following their conviction in the Lahore Conspiracy Case.

Apart from Ishar, another martyr Roor Singh, was also a resident of Dhudike. Roor hailed from Talwandi Bhangeria village in Moga. To pay tributes to Ishar, the Dhudike residents will unveil his statue on his 100th martyrdom day.

Dhudike was at the centre of Ghadar movement as 10 members of the party were from this village. Other than Ishar, another Ghadar Party member Pala Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment. Pakhar Singh was sent to ‘kala pani’ (Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands).

Dhudike is also the birthplace of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. On January 28, the village had observed his 150th birth anniversary.

Desh Bhagat Yaadgari Committee’s senior vice-president Gurcharan Singh said, "The committee has plans to make another statue of Roor Singh and set up a museum in the village to apprise the newer generations of the history of Ghadar movement".

"The charges against Ghadarites, including Sarabha, was that they waged a war against the King of England and wanted to overthrow the British government in India for which they resorted to enticement of Indian soldiers, collection of arms and ammunition, robbing government treasuries, committing murder of police official, wrecking of railway trains and bridges, production of inflammatory literature and its circulation to spread rebellion," said Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Committee general secretary Raghbir Kaur and member Amolak Singh.
