To commemorate the completion of 100 years of Ghadar Movement and centenary year of formation of Ghadar Party, noted poet and former assistant station director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jaswant Deed has captured the contributions of the leaders epic movement in a documentary.
After completing more than 30 years in Doordarshan Kendra, Deed, has produced the documentary ‘Hind Vasiyo Rakhna Yaad Sanu’ under his newly formed production company, The Digital Bridge. He has more than 50 TV documentaries in his kitty too.
Deed, hailing from Jalandhar and presently settled in Canada said, "In 1913, led by eminent personalities, leaders and scholars like Lala Hardyal, Kartar Singh Sarabha and Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna who was the founder president of Ghadar Party the movement started from America and Canada."
"The aim to make this documentary is to honour the contribution of the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to make India free," added Deed.
The documentary focuses on the history of the movement and its relevance in the present era. It also asks a question that whether the dreams of Ghadri Baba were fulfilled or not. The one hour documentary features drama, commentary and interviews with freedom fighters’ families and historians including HK Puri, filmmaker Ali Qazmi, Gurumail Sidhu, scholar and professor of University of California.
Deed said the research work and script of the film have been done by reputable writer Wareyam Sandhu, Sahitya Academy awardee from Toronto.
"The film has been shot in Canada, America and India. In America, I visited Yugantar Ashram in California, the birth place of Ghadar newspaper and Ghadar Movement. I have recorded relevant visuals and also captured the Berkeley University where Lala Hardyal was a teacher and Kartar Singh Sarabha, a student. The documentary also features the venue where the historical event of Komagata Maru had happened in Vancouver," Deed said.
The DVD of this documentary has been recently released by Ghadar Shatabdi Committee, Toronto.
