Pardeep Rai, TNN | Mar 30, 2011, AMBALA: The foundation stone of the memorial of unsung heroes of 1857 revolt is yet to be laid in the city. It is surprising that Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda who had visited the Jain school for a public function on Tuesday praised the city but he did not comment on the memorial proposed to come up in Haryana.
A budget of Rs 17 crore was released by Haryana government for the construction of a memorial and for other activities related to 1857 heroes.
"We are in touch with the chief minister. We have been informed that he would soon lay the foundation stone," a senior officer in the district administration said. Except for the few press releases issued by deputy commissioners since November 2010 and a reference to the revolt heroes in Hooda’s Tuesday speech, nothing has been done so far, sources said.
